Climb Every Mountain Fitness Challenge Week 10

Week 10 Climb Every Mountain Fitness Challenge - Grandfather Mountain
The Spring 2017 Climb Every Mountain encourages participants to exercise an average of at least 20 minutes per day. Week 10, beginning Mary 7 and ending May 13, features Grandfather Mountain.

Grandfather Mountain State Park, located in Banner Elk, connects to the fee-based park by the Grandfather Mountain Stewardship Foundation featuring a mile-high swinging bridge and small zoo. The state park offers eight trails ranging from easy to advanced. This rugged area offers some of North Carolina's most severe weather and challenging trails. The Grandfather Hiking Trail offers elevation changes of over 1800 feet in 2.4 miles where experienced hikers use in-place cables and ladders and have the opportunity to experience MacRae Peak.

This park, like many other parks, offers educational opportunities and activities led by rangers throughout the year. Kids can join the Junior Ranger program, and those planning educational field trips may apply for a Youth in Parks - Environmental Education grant. Adults and children are invited to join the passport program designed for the North Carolina State Parks system and to hike portions of the Mountains-to-Sea trail throughout the state.

Have you ever visited Grandfather Mountain? If so, what were your favorite activities?

If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.
