Week 9 2016 Walk to Bethlehem, PA Fitness Challenge

Week 9 Walk to Bethlehem PA Fitness Challenge - Silent Night, Holy Night
Welcome to Week 9 of the Walk to Bethlehem, PA fitness challenge sponsored by the Woodleaf UMC health ministry program! This week features "Silent Night, Holy Night," a Christmas carol that has captured the hearts of many from war torn battlefields to serene hay fields and an untold number of sites in between.

Joseph Mohr wrote the picturesque lyrics, and Franz Gruber created the simple yet captivating melody. The hymn was originally sung to the tune with guitar accompaniment on Christmas Eve in Obendorf, Austria in 1818.

I have played for many Christmas services in which this song is sung in the hushed stillness of candlelight. It is not surprising that this Christmas carol is often a favorite of folks all over the globe.

"And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes lying in a manger." Luke 2:12
